Stefan Hoge, fleet manager at NOSTA, is delighted with the completion of the replacement: "Thanks to early ordering, the first vehicles were already delivered to us in the summer of 2023. And it was definitely worth the wait." Now all 34 tractors have arrived and the final training of the drivers on the modern trucks has also been completed.
Tractors from the Sindelfingen-based global corporation were already part of the fleet, which serves over 40 NOSTA-owned locations and numerous customers in Germany and Europe. Now the complete changeover to the Actros 5L diesel series has taken place. "The machines are characterized by modern fuel-saving technology and safety features that represent real added value for us," says Stefan Hoge, explaining the decision.
The safety features include the so-called "mirror cams", which replace the previously common side mirrors. With this solution, drivers can see what is happening next to and behind the truck via displays inside the vehicle. "This reduces the dangerous blind spot to a minimum and provides more visibility through the side windows," adds Hoge, explaining this increased road safety. Interestingly, the aerodynamically mounted cameras reduce wind resistance compared to conventional exterior mirrors and thus also ensure fuel savings, according to the manufacturer.
In terms of efficiency, the intelligent cruise control of the new tractors is particularly crucial. "The system uses 3D maps and therefore automatically detects the correct acceleration and shift points. This allows fuel savings of up to five percent," reports Hoge. This and other features of the tractors have advantages for everyone involved: "The more efficient our transport operations are, the better it is for our customers," says the fleet manager.
And what do the drivers think of their new work equipment? "Some were skeptical at the beginning because of the mirror cams. That has changed completely now," says Stefan Hoge happily. In addition to the increase in safety, many employees were particularly impressed by the comfort of the vehicles: the quiet driver's cab, the comfortable seats and the smooth gearshifts were frequently praised by the drivers.
